Birthday Belated-ness

Yousuke Ichikawa

So Friday was Yousuke Ichikawa's birthday... and because the link I have to his blog is now defunct, I have no news on that front, although I shall post one of my favorite pictures of him. (For those who care, he was 29 on Friday.) (And I am just a little disappointed that I spent all weekend in the movies and did not make cupcakes... oh well.)

New Purple Theme!

This theme entertains me... and passes the purple test. I suppose the tiki thing speaks to some subconscious tendency towards all things related to the beach.

"I Dare You" Tuesday

Try to get a co-worker to swipe a set of car keys. See if he'd be willing to move the unsuspecting colleague's car to a parking spot on the opposite side of the lot before replacing the keys. Watch the quittin'-time fun from a window!

From my page-a-day office fun calendar. :)

Year in Review Meme

Yousuke Ichikawa - Dear Santa...
It's that time of year again, where this meme is making the rounds. So here goes:

Instructions: Post the first sentence of the first entry for each month of the year.

2008 - Etcetera Style )

I think I'm most amused by the random-ness of these things, mostly because these snippets are all parts of larger, ongoing dramatic sagas involving car troubles, work and the ridiculous electric bills I had over the summer. :)

Car was in the shop. Borrowed the little brother's car. o.O (Yes, people, it was funny. You try stuffing 300 mugs for an event in a Firebird. It's like 3-D Tetris with event supplies in the car.)

Anyways, hockey game this weekend. And, apparently, Twilight comes out this weekend as well. Hmmm. There's only one thing to say: Support Cedric Diggory. The REAL Hogwarts Champion. Silly little Hufflepuff.

Oh well. Fan fiction teaser under the cut. From the piece formerly known as... yeah. You get the point.

When seeing Kevin Smith movies...

Magenta and Riff Raff
... one apparently must sit through THREE trailers for horror movies. THREE! Oh well. I have faith that Gary Oldman will save this movie. Between him and David Goyer, it can't be all bad. Right?

*snort* Maybe Gary Oldman isn't even cool enough to save that movie, but one can hope.

And for anyone who was considering it, go see Zack and Miri Make a Porno. Although you do get to see more of Jason Mewes than you ever possibly wanted to see.

Weekend Update

Snoopy
... Bad Ballet. Whichever.

Anywhose... was just surfing along the interwebnetz while awaiting the season premiere of C.S.I. and decided to go over to Yousuke Ichikawa's blog and see what's going. Well, according to my free translator translation, he wrote a bunch of stuff about being a teacher. (Left high school, became a teacher, then became an actor, and landed back in education through acting stuff. I think. Don't quote me.) Anyways, it entertains me that the man is a math (!) teacher... and slightly nerdy. Heh. After all the teacher stuff, he talked briefly about a high school classmate getting married and there was an adorable picture of him at the wedding...

Cute Picture Under the Cut )

Is that not an utterly adorable picture? Someday... I will be in Japan stalking him.

Oh well. Expect a fan fiction update in a week or two. I also saw some sweet memes running around here that I might need to steal from various people and post here... hmmm... Anyways, the piece formerly known as the Art of Seduction is back in black from the dead. I'm thinking of adding a zombie. Not really. (I should start calling that piece TPFKATAOS... and if anyone has any clue what I'm talking about after I start random acronyms, I'll be lucky.) I'm tired of being the only one to write Magiranger fan fiction... start writing more Magiranger fan fiction people! (Anyone been to ff.net lately... anything good?)

So it goes...

ABCs )

I saw the Dark Knight several times this past weekend... Best. Movie. EVER. So, naturally, I had to get some icons. This movie has endeared me to Commissioner Gordon's character forever. :) Heh.

Stolen from [info]herberta2006 ... this was just damn fun!

1. Bold the names of guys you'd definitely sleep with.
2. Italicize the names of guys you might sleep with after a little persuasion.
3. Leave the guys who don't do anything for you alone.
4. Put a question mark after the guys you've never heard of.
5. Strike the guys you wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.
6. ADD FOUR OF YOUR OWN AT THE END.

Lies! All lies!

I hate my current electicity provider - I'm to the point where I figure, if I'm already going to be paying a ridiculous amount per kWh, then I might as well switch to Green Mountain Energy or something, and at least be eco-friendly while I'm vomiting money. Yah!

And the writer's block thing for today was cool. Something about recalling dreams. I had a weird dream last night. I was at a New Kids On the Block concert with a friend I haven't seen since high school and Nicky Byrne (of Westlife.) And for whatever reason there was a swimming pool in the middle of the audience's chairs. Whatever. Anyways, NKOTB started singing Amazing (which is a Westlife song) and Nicky hulked out. Then the alarm went off.

But all the people who claim to have "competitive" rates for electricity plans -- lies! All lies!

the Life and Times of Etcetera Part XIV

Sam - "You are all weirdos."

Nothing like trying to register for classes, finding out there's a hold on your record, clicking fourteen thousand more links to find out what the hold is, realizing it's something stupid and then being able to register in five seconds. Ah, technology. There's nothing quite like it.

In other news, I am massively (more like, retardedly) excited that New Kids on the Block have reunited and will be releasing an album and touring this fall. Whee! I was really too young to enjoy them the first time around, but they've grown up, and are much prettier now, and I'm legal this time around. Heh. Yes, I did get tickets to the concert. They're with Natasha Bedingfield. (YAH!) What could be better than a NKOTB concert with Natasha Bedingfield opening? (For those who are unaware, she's the singer behind Unwritten, which is only one of my all-time favorite songs.) I need a NKOTB icon... because, seriously, Jordan Knight and Danny Wood = prettiness.

And while I'm talking about boy bands, I think it's just a little sad that I am discovering a deep love for the member of Westlife that left the band four... five years ago. Something like. Always makes me wonder why boy bands members leave. I mean, they cite family reasons, but with Bryan (the Westlife member), I strongly suspect that wasn't really the case. I'm just glad all five original members of NKOTB are back. (Although I don't think they would have reunited if that hadn't been the case.) I could go on a fangirl drama reason why I think Bryan left Westlife, but that's probably better left for my great romance novel. LOL.

(And I've torrented Go-on 19 and have yet to watch it. And it's a Gunpei episode. It's rather sad for me...)

And I just finished watching Zettai Kareshi... and my final thought was, "I could make this into a two hour movie and the ending would be so much more awesome." And I know who I'd cast as Night, Soshi and Namikiri. Heh. Also goes to show that I've become a film and television snob recently. Except for where LOST is concerned. LOST could become a musical about a phonebook, and I wouldn't care, as long as Henry Ian Cusick and Josh Holloway continued to make appearances... :P

Life's Oddities

Desmond - "Guh."

Nothing like discovering that the kitten you've had for a week -- that an unnamed party assured you was male -- is actually female.

Oh well. Too late to rename her. She's stuck with the name Sawyer.

Enough with the random posts...

Desmond & Penny

So this weekend is shaping up to be good (in a rather eclectic fashion). Sweeney Todd is tomorrow night, and I read in the newspaper that it's someone's ten-man adaptation, where all the actors are also the musicians. Should be cool. :P

And I'm getting my new kitten on Saturday! (Yes -- I did have to put Squeaky down a little over a month ago. But my vet was really great about the whole thing, let me hold him and all. [Because he massively hated the vet.] And I got his ashes and a paw print.) Charlie's been lonely and going bonkers -- he normally bounces off the walls and caterwauls, but it's been exponentially worse since we lost Squeaky. One of my mom's students has a cat that had kittens -- she was really kind of sweet, because she had to put her dog down two or three months ago, and understands the whole thing. Anyways, I believe I am getting the gray and white kitten. He's supposed to be the quieter of the pair -- I'm hoping he turns out to be a good lap-sitter, and can calm Charlie a bit. I've pretty much decided that the kitten is going to be named Sawyer. (In keeping with the LOST theme... if the kitten was a girl, she'd be called Claire. The name Desmond is reserved for a Scottish Fold.)

This weekend = yah! I don't think any good movies come out this weekend. A couple come out next weekend. At least the Incredible Hulk.

The LOST season finale was phenomenal! I thought for a while that they might be trying to wrap up the series -- but that finale just blew open a whole different can of worms. Sun is conspiring with Widmore? Jack's drunk and trying to get everyone back to the island? Locke is dead? And what's with the threat Ben issued to Widmore about killing Penny earlier in the season? Although we did get the really great Desmond and Penny reunion during the finale. :)

Whew! All that chaos -- we "reorganized" at work, meaning that some people were demoted, and then decided to question our current assignments. Long story short -- I unloaded conservation (on an unwilling person, but now it's not my problem) and acquired visual and performing arts! Whee! I no longer dread this coming year nearly as much. (A few kinks to be ironed with the person who previously had visual and performing arts -- but my supervisor keeps telling me, "Just talk to her, and if you need an intervention, just let me know." So nice to have a boss that isn't as flaky as my old one.)

And I don't have classes this summer... so if I can keep away from Kingdom Hearts (I don't know whether to hug or strangle the little brother that introduced me to that game) then I might get some writing done this summer. :) I'm interested to see if I can write for LOST, and I have some Sentai ideas niggling in my head. And the ship potential in Go-Onger is... interesting. At first, I was seeing the Sousuke, Ren and Saki triangle, while Hanto and Gunpei did their thing, but now it seems more like Gunpei and Sousuke butt heads and give each other grief, while Hanto and Saki act like junior high kids, and Ren is just... Ren.

Turnaround...

Andrew... this magical crap is for you. :P

In other news... saw the live action Death Note movie last night. Awesome. I don't follow the manga series at all, so I was surprised. :) The FBI agent, Raye Iwamatsu was apparently portrayed by Shigeki Hosokawa. He was some nice eye candy. And there was a criminal at the very beginning of the movie (that was killed off thirty seconds later) who looked alarmingly like Wu Chun... but I don't think it was him. Oh well.

Doing what I do best...

Jude's Story
So this meme has been making the rounds, and I had to jump in... because it's one of the better memes out there right now! It's been everywhere, but I most recently saw it with [info]itsbuttery and [info]xomidnight .

Give me one of my own stories and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future.

I also saw an icon meme that looked cool, but I'll refrain for now.

Fic stuff!

I've got a couple new Hikaru/Urara things in the works, but nothing definite. I do want to get back to [info]everyfiveyears ... because I only posted one story. (Which I don't believe got feedback. Come on guys! You've got to love a five year old Hikaru... although I admit, I prefer him when he's grown up and it's not illegal to do unspeakable things to him.)

And then there's that ridiculous Gou/Ken thing that's been... niggling. Oh well. One more day, and I'm on vacation! I scheduled a long weekend... end of the semester. Life has been crazy. I'm over the camp funk, so I can enjoy my vacation. Wash the car, clean the apartment, go to the movies, grocery shop... you know. Catch up on life. Play Guitar Hero and Donkey Kong Country. Watch Lost. :)

So much for what I thought...

Yousuke Ichikawa
Okay. So maybe I'm just hallucinating from too much cough medicine... but I am fairly certain that last year, Ichikawa at least put something on his blog about his birthday. Hmmm... nothing on the official fan site, his talent agency's site or his blog. Oh well. And even if I am the lone nerdy American, I am here to celebrate! (And even if it is already tomorrow in Japan...)

Maybe it's because he's 28... (and getting too close to 30...) Whatever. I actually wrote a project for "Marriage and the Family" (this psych class I took as an undergrad) where I used Yousuke Ichikawa as the physical basis for my ideal mate. o.O Of course, I also waxed poetic about the Paladin archetype in this project, among other retarded things, including repeating the phrase "deeply and hygienically" disturbed to describe some people who've chosen to express their affections to me in a creepy way.

I hope he had a good birthday. And tomorrow... IRON MAN! But tonight, LOST and hopefully some Desmond. :)

With any luck...

... so the really, really gripe-y people from this weekend haven't called. Yet. Either they realized how ridiculous their complaints were or they are composing a quite spiteful letter. But right now I'm sick, so I don't care.

I did manage (finally!) to get my Hikaru mood theme set up. I'm taking it for a test run with my journal -- to see what I think, before I post it around for the general population. Although people... those of you that watched Magiranger, that is... I'm putting my mood on "drunk" (even though that is not the case.) It's one of the more outlandish ones... tell me if it makes even the slightest bit of sense. (And remember who I ship religiously from Magiranger.)

I'm hoping my good fortune lasts. Through tomorrow. Since tomorrow is Yousuke Ichikawa's birthday... and that day just has to have good karma. (He'll be 28... Defintely eligible. I should attempt a free translator version of his blog tomorrow.) And Friday is Iron Man! (And, no, Andrew, we are not going to the Cinemark. It scares me. Find the AMC times.) Oh, and tomorrow is a new LOST. Hopefully with some Desmond! (And at a later time, so bell choir doesn't conflict.)

I'm off for some Nyquil and sleep. Do let me know about the "drunK" image. :P

In need of coffee... and eye candy.

  • Apr. 21st, 2008 at 7:25 PM
Starbucks Coffee

Wow. I have never been at a point where I am this exhausted, and in constant need of espresso, coffee or coke. It's unreal. My boss actually asked me today what I was doing at the office. As much as I would have loved to take today off, I do have a big, big event this weekend. (Although I did leave work at two... that was a mistake. Should have gone to Quizno's and gone back.)

On the fun stuff front, I did complete round uno of my Hikaru mood theme. Still needs some major tweaking, but I'm happy to at least have something for all million and one of the moods. :) It's definitely theraputic because it puts me to sleep. I'll post it around a few places when I'm finally finished with it, which probably won't be for a few weeks.

Squeaky is doing as well as he can be... (and knows when it's time for his medicine. I gave him his meds last night, and he went in the bathroom to sulk. I found him in the cupboard under the sink. The doors to that cupboard are now secured.)

Back to work! Doing many useful and fun things that are not my research paper... heh.

PS I just realized that many interesting things are happening all at once: May 1 is Yousuke Ichikawa's birthday and a mini celebration with cupcakes and plans to go to Japan and do unspeakable things to him are included, May 2 is Iron Man... May 16 is Prince Caspian... this is quite good, especially after my big train wreck of an event that is happening this weekend. Excellent.
